Bisnis, JAKARTA - The 42nd Asean Summit taking place in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara this week presents a significant opportunity to strengthen collaboration among Southeast Asian nations.
The acceleration of economic cooperation is seen as a significant initiative to strengthen ties among Southeast Asian nations amidst growing global uncertainty and competition. Additionally, many Asean countries have adopted the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) at present.
During the opening of the Asean Summit yesterday, Indonesian President Joko Widodo emphasized the need for Asean member countries to enhance economic integration and promote inclusive cooperation, which includes the implementation of RCEP.
RCEP is a free trade agreement that includes 10 Asean countries and five partner countries. The agreement was first signed in November 2020, and Indonesia began implementing it on January 2, 2022.
