Finance Minister, OJK, and BI’s Feedback on Economic Outlook

Indonesia is currently facing several structural challenges, such as those related to infrastructure and human resources, that cannot be resolved quickly, not even within a decade.

Bisnis, JAKARTA — Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Bank Indonesia (BI) deputy governor Juda Agung, and Financial Services Authority (OJK) Board of Commissioners chairman Mahendra Siregar conveyed their feedback and notes to presidential hopefuls for the upcoming election to ensure economic growth is maintained.

Sri Mulyani said Indonesia is currently facing several structural problems, such as those related to infrastructure and human resources, which may take a decade or more to fix. Therefore, she calls for investments to be focused on addressing fundamental issues within the country.

“Cyclical aspects are also important because we don't maintain the economy like a straight toll road without obstacles. Shocks always occur, and these shocks can change policy directions,” she said during the Indonesian Economic Outlook seminar on Friday (22/12/2023).

Sri Mulyani mentioned that the development of the global economy also needs to be monitored. For instance, the state budget has become a very effective countercyclical and shock absorber in mitigating global risks. “For productivity, maintain a healthy, strong, and credible state budget,” she added.
