Bisnis, JAKARTA – The ongoing strike by Hollywood film writers and actors, which began in May, has the potential to cause significant delays in the release of several highly anticipated films scheduled for 2024. This development may not bode well for PT Nusantara Sejahtera Raya Tbk (CNMA), the company that oversees Cinema XXI cinemas.
According to reports, as of last week, approximately 30 Hollywood films have indicated that they might postpone their release schedules due to the ongoing labor protest. Among these films are several titles that have generated excitement among Indonesian audiences, including Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Deadpool 3, Gladiator 2, and Mission: Impossible 8.
The labor strikes within the Hollywood film industry have been ongoing since May, with over 160,000 actors and tens of thousands of writers participating. This strike, the first in 60 years, is rooted in the failure of film unions and studio associations to reach an agreement on new minimum wage regulations.
The ongoing labor dispute in the Hollywood film industry revolves around wage regulations, with the previous set of regulations set to expire in 2023. Writers' Guild of America (WGA) currently collects a total of $429 million annually from studios, while the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) has offered only $86 million.
