Bisnis, JAKARTA — The government's proactive measures to promote the downstream of bauxite, enabling its processing into aluminum, have yielded favorable outcomes for several companies holding mining portfolios and engaging in downstream projects related to this commodity.

PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk. (ADRO), via its subsidiary PT Adaro Minerals Indonesia Tbk. (ADMR), aims to commence the operation of aluminum smelters in stages beginning in 2025. Additionally, ADMR is exploring prospects for expansion in various other metal and mineral sectors.

Director of Adaro Minerals Indonesia Wito Krisnahadi highlighted that ADMR possesses two significant assets, namely Adaro MetCoal, which produces coking coal or metallurgical coal, and the ongoing aluminum smelter project undertaken by PT Kalimantan Aluminum Industry (KAI).

Currently, construction is ongoing for the aluminum smelter project, which is slated to have a Phase I production capacity of 500,000 tons of aluminum ingots or bars. There are hopes that the smelter will gradually commence commercial operations, starting in Q3 2025.
