Bisnis, JAKARTA — The plan to launch a carbon exchange in September 2023 is progressing, with the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) officially submitting a request to become the organizer of the carbon exchange. The Indonesia Climate Exchange (ICX) is also preparing to register as another candidate.

IDX submitted the request to the Financial Services Authority (OJK) on Thursday (7/9/2023). IDX Business Development Director Jeffrey Hendrik stated that IDX has met all the requirements outlined in OJK Circular Letter (SEOJK) No.12/2023 concerning Procedures for Organizing Carbon through the Carbon Exchange. This circular letter is derived from OJK Regulation (POJK) No. 14/2023 concerning the Carbon Exchange which was previously issued.

“Hence, we can confirm that IDX has formally applied to become the organizer of the carbon exchange, aligning with the regulations outlined in SEOJK 12/2023,” said Jeffrey, quoted on Friday, September 8, 2023.

According to him, IDX’s groundwork for assuming the role of a carbon exchange organizer commenced in early 2022. This included extensive discussions and communication with pertinent ministries and institutions.
