Bisnis, JAKARTA — Financial markets continue to experience selling pressure from foreign investors due to the Fed’s ongoing monetary tightening and the expectation of sustained high-interest rates.

According to Chief Economist & Debt Research Division Head of BRI Danareksa Sekuritas Helmy Kristanto, the risk of foreign investor fund outflows is inevitable. This trend persists despite efforts by Bank Indonesia (BI) to reduce rupiah volatility against the US dollar.

Recent data from the Directorate General of Financing and Risk Management (DJPPR) of the Ministry of Finance on October 5, 2023, showed a decrease of IDR 3.18 trillion in foreign investors' placement in Government Securities (SBN), bringing it down to IDR 819.83 trillion, which is 14.9% of the total SBN in circulation. On the other hand, the banking industry recorded a net inflow of funds totaling IDR 7.87 trillion at the close of trading in September 2023.

This trend was also observed in mutual funds, as well as insurance and pension funds, which recorded inflows of IDR 2.48 trillion and IDR 2.29 trillion, respectively.
