Bisnis, JAKARTA — The designation of 22 strategic minerals within the nation heralds a revitalization in the mining sector, aligning with endeavors to fortify the competitiveness of our natural resource domain. This initiative not only bolsters vital sectors such as electric vehicle infrastructure but also extends its support to the defense and health industries.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has officially declared 22 minerals as strategic commodities through its decree No. 69. K/MB.01/MEM.B/2024 concerning Determination of Commodity Types Classified as Strategic Mineral Classification.

The regulation, promulgated on April 1, 2024, is geared towards optimizing the domestic downstream activities of minerals, particularly in strategic sectors. This designation underscores Indonesia's commitment to leveraging minerals to enhance its competitiveness both domestically and globally.

Among the commodities listed are nickel, tin, rare earth metals, copper, zirconium, aluminum, iron, gold, and cobalt.
