BIsnis, JAKARTA—In terms of profitability, state-owned banks have demonstrated strong performance, as seen by their profit growth throughout the first half of 2023.

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BBRI), PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. (BMRI), PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BBNI), and PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk. (BBTN) have all consistently recorded annual profit growth on a year-on-year (YoY) basis. In terms of nominal profit, BRI leads the pack, while Bank Mandiri stands out for its significant growth rate.

Furthermore, the intermediation performance of the Association of State-owned Banks (Himbara) is commendable as their loan disbursement has grown by 8.58% YoY. This growth aligns with the broader trend observed in the banking industry, which saw a loan disbursement growth of 7.76%.

However, state-owned banks face certain challenges. When closely examined, the loan disbursement growth during the first half of 2023 is still lower compared to the achievements in the same period of the previous year. Additionally, the lingering global economic uncertainty continues to cast a shadow over business activities, potentially leading to tighter banking liquidity.
