Bisnis, JAKARTA — PT Pertamina (Persero), an Indonesian state-owned oil and gas firm, appears to be affected by a succession of oil refinery fires regularly. The recent disaster was the fire at the Putri Tujuh Oil Refinery in Dumai, Riau Province, on Saturday (4/1/2023).
This occurrence adds to the lengthy list of mishaps that have befallen Pertamina's critical assets. A large fire at Pertamina's critical assets happened less than a month ago on Friday (3/3/2023) at the Plumpang Oil Fuel Terminal (TBBM) region or the Pertamina Plumpang Depot, Koja, North Jakarta.
There have been at least six fire incidents in Pertamina's assets over the last two years, beginning with the Balongan Refinery in March 2021, the Cilacap Refinery in November 2021, the Pertamina Balikpapan Refinery in March 2022 and May 2022, the Pertamina Depot Plumpang in March 2023, and the Pertamina Putri Tujuh Oil Refinery Unit (RU) II Dumai, in April 2023.
With the number of fires increasing, there is a lot of uncertainty about Pertamina's security system, as well as the dependability of the company's oil refineries. Corporate governance and risk management are also being called into question.
